The system provides key gait analysis parameters, including maximum paw contact timing and area, contact intensity, paw width, stance duration, and inter-paw position. It calculates step cycle, stride length, duty cycle, braking and propulsion indices. It also measures cadence, step sequence, step width and base, regularity index, phase dispersion, interlimb coordination, and support patterns. Additional metrics include toe spread, intermediate toe spread, and paw angle relative to body axis. The system can automatically compute functional indices for the posterior tibial (TFI), peroneal (PFI), and sciatic nerves (SFI).

SOP:
Step 1:
In the track adjustment interface, move the white frame to fully enclose the walking runway. Confirm clear camera focus and correct frame rate.

Step 2:
Place a 5 cm × 5 cm reference scale on the runway. In the calibration dialog, adjust the lower-left box until the scale is fully enclosed for accurate measurement.

Step 3:
Click "New Experiment" and fill in the experiment name, animal type, time point, and group. Set the minimum and maximum walking cycle durations (e.g., 2–10 seconds). Add animals in the animal list.

Step 4:
Enter the recording interface and select the corresponding trial. Clean the runway with alcohol. Open the gate and click "Start Recording." When the mouse crosses the white-framed area, the system stops recording automatically. Continue with the next run for the same or different trial.

Step 5:
Right-click on the desired run and select "Gait Analysis." After automatic detection, click "Initial Screening Correction" and then "Auto Pre-Correction." Ensure blue (footprint region) boxes are larger than green (detected footprint) boxes. Use "Select Status" to manually adjust boxes.
Press "A"/"D" to move through frames. Click "Add Foot Contact Area" or "Add Single Footprint" to mark undetected zones. Delete any incorrect detections. After adjusting one limb, switch to others from the bottom-left menu.

Step 6:
Click the lower panel buttons to view graphical results and statistical data. Export as needed.

The rodent gait analysis system is a non-invasive platform for assessing locomotor deficits and pain-related gait changes in freely walking mice and rats. It uses light refraction technology and a high-speed camera to capture real paw prints and pressure distribution in real time. Advanced algorithms automatically classify footprints and calculate key gait parameters such as stride length, duty cycle, cadence, step width, and interlimb coordination. The system also provides functional indices for sciatic, tibial, and peroneal nerves, supporting applications in models of nerve injury, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, and other motor disorders.
